East Jerusalem: Tensions mount between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters

Tensions were high between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters near the Al-Aqsa compound in East Jerusalem on Monday as police raided the area.

Footage shows confrontations following the clashes in the morning.

The escalation comes as Israel marks 'Jerusalem Day' in reference to the establishment of its control over the Old City after the 1967 Six-Day War.

Israeli police have changed the route of a march of Jewish ultranationalists celebrating Jerusalem day on Monday to avoid further clashes in the city.
