On April 22, 2025, a tragic terrorist attack occurred near Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of at least five tourists and injuries to over 20 others. The assault took place in the Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination known for its scenic beauty. Gunmen opened fire on a group of Indian tourists, causing chaos and prompting immediate medical evacuation efforts.  

Authorities have labeled the incident a “terror attack,” attributing it to militants opposing Indian rule in the disputed region. Security forces have sealed off the area and initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, stating that those responsible “will not be spared.” He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. 

This incident marks one of the most significant attacks on civilians in the region in recent years, highlighting the ongoing tensions in Kashmir. While violence has decreased in recent times, sporadic militant attacks continue to pose challenges to peace and security in the area.
