Liszt/Paganini: La Campanella (Marc-Andre Hamelin)
Hamelin waltzes through what is regularly touted as "the hardest" piano piece in internet comment sections (even though it's not). This is easily the best recording of this piece from a technical standpoint (not necessarily speed, although I'm certain he could play the intro much faster if he wanted, but it's not very musical above tempo). Hamelin has full control of the music (even those insane trills). The interpretation is quite expressive compared to many others, he is able to actually make music out of technically difficult spots rather than just struggle through them. Hamelin arranged his own version of this etude which is significantly more difficult, so I imagine that's part of what allowed him to play this piece so well. Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.
