Off-duty pilot was allegedly having nervous breakdown when he tried disabling engine

Joseph Emerson, a Bay Area pilot, told the FBI that he had consumed psychedelic mushrooms prior to attempting to disable the engines of a plane bound for San Francisco, according to federal court documents. He also told investigators that he was depressed and having a breakdown during the incident that forced the Alaska Airlines flight to land in Portland
