Former school for African American students may see new life

A building that served as an educational cornerstone for African American students in northern Mecklenburg County for nearly three decades is now at the center of a redevelopment effort, as county leaders seek proposals from developers to preserve and repurpose the historic site.

For former students like the Pattersons, who attended Torrence-Lytle and grew up in the surrounding neighborhood, the memories remain vivid.
