Stained Glass Window Restore and Upcycle
I've come across a large amount of stained glass windows from the 30's or 40's at auction the last few months.
A lot have broken panes and the frames are in need of a little work.
For these one's i chased out all the old putty and removed the glass.
I then repaired what i could of the glass which was good but the lead needed a little attention.
Then i moved to the frames and broke them down to glue and redo the mortice and tenons.
Resprayed the undercoat of the frames.
I then started repairing the ones with bad glass. Lucky i had enough of the same design, that i could use a donor window to swap out the glass.
After these were replaced and some of the lead replaced and soldered i was ready to put everything back together.
I used window framing putty to replace everything, then painted in some nice colours to complement most modern decor.
The lights are just LED strip that has been attached to a USB adapter. These can be run of any 5v adapter or battery pack.
This was enjoyable and very therapeutic work.
