[Question] "Can you explain Form DS-5540 step by step? As a US
Citizen, I'm petitioning my husband and the Embassy asked me to submit
this form."
Oh, really?
The DS-5540 is a form...
Consult with an Immigration lawyer in private.
There's an injunction that should put the the DS-5540 on
hold. Which Embassy is asking this? Right now, they're generally
not asking this and there was an injunction...
The DS-5540 is for Public Charge. They ask you questions about
your finances.
They stopped it in the United States and asked that question
in the Embassy? The US version was overturned.
I think the Embassy version was overturned, too, and in general
they're not asking about it yet.
So it's surprising that the Embassy has asked you for the
5540. So, one is, consult with an Immigration attorney as soon as possible.
That's peculiar.
But also let me know which Embassy it is that would
ask that. That's not good
that they're asking that. It's very annoying for
them to get into that.
It might be because of your personal financial situation.
They didn't like your Affidavit of Support for some reason.
I don't know, but let me know about how that works.
