Manila Solar City : A Manila Bay Reclamation Project to start this year | Booming Philippines

After more than 30 years of waiting, Malacañang has given Philippine Reclamation Authority the nod to approve the Manila Solar City reclamation project which will create three islands in Manila Bay, 635 meters Parallel to Roxas Boulevard in front of Manila Yacht Club.

The PRA, which is overseen by the Office of the President, issued on Feb. 22 a notice to mobilize and a notice to commence actual reclamation works to the consortium of Manila Goldcoast and the City of Manila.

The approval of the 148-hectare reclamation project in Manila Bay will pave the way for the rise of a new commercial district in the area.

In building this planned city, an estimated 20 million cubic meters of sand would be used to reclaim the area.

The reclaimed area will have a frontage of 635 meters parallel to Roxas Boulevard, and will occupy less than 0.082 percent of the bay’s 1,800-square-kilometer surface area.

Its boundary will be up to the Ospital ng Maynila, a full kilometer from the US Embassy.

The reclaimed area will have three islands: East Island 1, the closest to the Manila Yacht Club, measuring 28.73 ha; East Island 2, 36.87 ha; and West Island, the farthest, 82.40 ha.

The reclamation will not adversely affect the historic allure of the bay; and will in fact complement the CCP Complex, which includes the Philippine International Convention Center, Folk Arts Theater, Manila Film Center, Coconut Palace, and Sofitel Hotel,

The Project was originally proposed in 1990.
