Shooting a Sweet Gum Mortar | Part 1

To learn more about Duffy Neubauer, his collection and woodworking recreation of Civil War artillery, or to schedule a visit check out:
https://www.starkvillecivilwararsenal.com/

Duffy Neubauer is the creator of the Starkville Civil War Arsenal. It's the only facility in the country where visitors can view all of the Civil War field artillery carriages and associated support vehicles. The Arsenal features several canons, a rolling forge, a Wheeling ambulance, and a few other carriages. The newest addition is a sweet gum mortar. The sweet gum mortar is a portable mortar made from the trunk of a sweet gum tree. Click the video above to learn about how it was made, the ammunition it shot, and to see several rounds fired through it.

I planned on shooting this video to share with all of you for a while and scheduled a date convenient for the rest of reenactment soldiers. Unfortunately, that date fell right in the middle of our unexpected adoption trip so I could not attend the shooting of the video (or mortar). I still wanted to show the mortar as it's an interesting piece of history and woodworking so I hired a friend to record for me. So with that said the video credits are as follows:

Video producer: Jeremy Payne, Duffy Neubauer
Video recording: Jeremy Payne
Rough video timeline assembly: Jeremy Payne
Final edit: Jay Bates
