Hurricane Laura continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico and is now forecast to become a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane warnings are now in place ahead of the hurricane, which is forecast to make landfall in under 48 hours in either western Louisiana or far eastern Texas as a strong hurricane. Impacts from Hurricane Laura could be life-threatening and may include: a storm surge of 9-13 feet, rainfall of 6-10 inches that may cause flash flooding, and hurricane-force sustained winds, possibly above category 3 strength. While the exact landfall for Laura isn't pinned down quite yet, all residents under the hurricane warning zone should be preparing as if they may be receiving a category four hurricane impact. It's always best to over-prepare for a potential storm like Laura than to be under-prepared.

In the Western Pacific Basin, Typhoon Bavi is strengthening over the East China Sea with winds of 95kts and is expected to impact the Korean peninsula this week as a major typhoon. Gale warnings are starting to come into effect off the shores of South Korea, with the closest approach from the typhoon expected in 2-3 days.
