Why is the Scottish independence movement doing Westminster’s job for them? Why are we still wasting time tearing each other down while the British state quietly strengthens its grip? Internal blame is rotting this movement from the inside, and if we don’t wake up to it now, we will lose the battle before we’ve even had the chance to fight.

This movement was once united in defiance, standing together for Scotland’s right to self-determination. Now, it is splintered. Factions fight amongst themselves, convinced that other pro-independence groups are the reason we haven't yet broken free from Westminster. This is self-sabotage. The real enemy isn’t the SNP, it isn’t Alba, it isn’t the Greens. The real enemy is the British state—the very system that thrives on our division.

Every bitter argument, every grudge held, every time we waste energy attacking fellow pro-Scottish voices, we move further away from independence. Westminster doesn’t need to lift a finger when we’re doing the work of division for them. They sit back and watch while we rip each other apart, knowing that as long as we’re at each other’s throats, we’re no threat to them. They exploit our infighting while they centralize power, drain our resources, and continue to dictate Scotland’s future from London.

And why does this happen? Because people fall into the trap of internal blame. When the path to independence feels frustrating, when progress feels slow, people lash out. They look inward, not outward. They tell themselves that if only their party, their leader, their faction was in charge, things would be different. But independence isn’t about one party or one persona's about the nation’s right to govern itself. And every time we waste energy on division, we make that goal harder to achieve.

Some in this movement have convinced themselves that scapegoating is the way forward. That if we just remove the SNP, or if we just side line Alba, or if we just get rid of this group or that faction, everything will suddenly fall into place. This is a fantasy. Removing one "problem" will not erase division—it will just create a new target. And while we play this pathetic game, Westminster remains in control.

This endless cycle of infighting and toxicity is not just harming activists—it is destroying public confidence in the movement. Undecided voters see the chaos and they walk away. Why would they support independence when the people fighting for it can’t even work together? The younger generation, the future of this cause, see nothing worth joining. They believe in independence, but why would they step into a movement that spends more time arguing with itself than actually campaigning?

This is not a fan club for your favourite politician. It is not a place to settle old scores or prove your ideological purity. It is a fight for Scotland’s future. And the reality is this: internal division is not strategy it is sabotage. It is handing victory to Westminster without them even needing to fight for it.

So ask yourself: are you actually fighting for Scotland? Or are you just fighting to be right? Because if we don’t get past this, if we don’t start putting the movement before our egos, then we will lose. And if that happens, don’t pretend you weren’t warned. Don’t pretend you didn’t see it coming.

History is watching. The next generation is watching. Scotland is watching.

What will they see? A movement that let its own arrogance cost the nation its freedom? Or a movement that rose above petty division and delivered independence?

The choice is yours. But the time to make it is running out.
