1969 - A Whole New Disney World
Roy Disney held a press conference event titled "Project Florida: A Whole New Disney World". The event was held at one of Wometco's Park Theaters in Florida. Attendance was by invitation only. The beginning of the conference contained a film titled "Walt Disney World - Phase 1" which used excerpts from the original 1967 "EPCOT" film. The second part of the conference featured Don Tatum, then VP of Walt Disney Productions. Don introduces representatives of 2 companies that would be partnering in the construction of the Florida Project.

U.S. Steel Company's Edwin H. Gott describes U.S. Steel's work as a bold new experiment. Their projects would include the 750 rooms Contemporary and 700 Polynesian resorts. All of the rooms would be be built as modular (unitized) construction. All rooms would be completely furnished and climate control installed. Once hoisted into place the utilities would be plugged in. The use of steel would considerably reduce the weight of each room unit. The goal was to showcase the use of steel in other urban housing implementations.

RCA's Chase Morsey, Jr. explains how RCA is partnering with Walt Disney Productions on a Concept and Design of a computer based fully integrated, total communication system to be used throughout WDW. The focus would be a Systems Communication Center open to the public at Tomorrowland. The would support Walt's concept of enriching urban life by humane use of technology.
In 1968 RCA creates a new division called Systems Development, whose first assignment was to help develop the communication system for Disney World. Computer System for the Business Side including a Reservation System. A hotel communication system supported by color TV and AM/FM broadcast. A closed circuit TV system for training cast members, provide bulletins to guests, and monitor playgrounds and rides for safety purposes. An automated monitoring and control system to guard against fire and to check on equipment. A mobile communication system to transmit information and instructions. All of these systems where to be developed for Disney World's opening in 1971 as Phase 1. Other phases would extend to EPCOT including the industrial park and Jet Airport.
