A Trip to the Moon, Part 2: The Transfer Orbit
In this video, we determine a Hohmann elliptical transfer orbit to travel to the Mun, a moon of the planet Kerbin. We find the required semi-major axis and eccentricity and use the vis-viva equation to find the velocity required for the orbit. We use Kepler's law to calculate the period of the orbit and integration to calculate the length of the orbital path.
Error correction (at 33 minutes): Perimeter of ellipse is approximately (4)(6350)(1.184) = 30073.6 meters= 30.0736 kilometers
