TURN N’ BURN DEPARTURE (Rwy 32R) BA373 TLS-LHR, SEAT 25F. GREAT VIEWS OF AIRBUS FACILITY!

Here we get a great opportunity to see the whole Airbus facility ‘from the cabin’ as we depart from Toulouse Blagnac.

When I’m ‘up on the hill’ at my usual spot (pinpointed in the video), I’m able to see the Delivery Centre as well as (what was) the A380 Assembly sheds. These sheds are now earmarked for future A321 production.

The other sheds (opposite) are also used for a number of procedures such as cabin fit-out, inspections and engine fitting. The Final Assembly Lines (FAL) are at the far end of the field by the Flight Line.

Aircraft without engines are commonly known as ‘Gliders’ and have appeared many times on our shows as well as in pre-paint condition, which is great to see in their ‘raw’ state.

At this stage, the aircraft carry a temporary ‘test’ registration, which is not unique to the customer, but carried-across once the aircraft has been delivered.

As we pass the Delivery Centre, you can see the engine test bays, the Beluga parking area, ATR stands and the Flight Line with a great array of new Customer Jets, all in different states of completion. The Airbus ‘Family’ test aircraft are also parked down this end. You can also see single aisle Jets (tails) remotely parked-up.

From my position on the hill, the aircraft parked opposite on stands look as though they’re parked-up very close together, but you can clearly see from the aerial shot that these are remote individual stands or ‘dispersals’. These stands appear to be used for aircraft awaiting anything from engine fitting to inspection or just ‘freeing-up’ space elsewhere on the airfield. Some jets, such as the Air Asia A330NEOs are awaiting engine fit and re-paint to Condor livery in 2022. Beyond this is the Air France Industries facility. As we climb-out, you can also see the Airbus Museum, well worth a visit.

The large circular structure is a moveable/rotating engine test R&D and/storage area.

For note, on this visit, the AN124 transporter was undergoing on-wing engine replacement due to a flame-out on takeoff some days earlier after delivering its cargo. VDR sent replacement engine(s) on one of their AN124 Jets from Liege to help in the process. From what I can make out here, there was more than one engine issue!

The position on the hill is accessible to anyone, with parking at the bottom of the hill or, via an access road, at the top of the hill too. Be sure to take provisions as there are no facilities nearby other than the ‘supermarche’ about a mile away. There is a bar/Brasserie at the bottom of the hill, with toilets and a great bar.
