Coercive Control: The Post-separation Challenges and Consequences – Episode 9

In the ninth episode of our ten-part series on coercive control, Dr Torna Pitman explores the destructive legacy that follows coercively controlling relationships.

Rather than bringing healing and closure, the ending of a relationship with a coercive controller can herald a new and equally damaging campaign of dominance and manipulation for the victim and their children.

In the post-separation version of coercive control, the abuser may wield a range of tactics to exhaust the victim's personal and financial resources and undermine their wellbeing. In this way the coercive controller is able to perpetuate their subjugation of the family, even post-separation.
