NBA Legends on Pistol Pete Maravich. Pistol Pete was the GOAT.
Shooting. Now there are not many players in nba history that were as good of a shooter like pistol pete.
yes he sometimes took shots that were increably difficult, but the thing was, he made most of them.
in the face of one defender, 2 defenders or even 3. he was not only able to create his own shot, but he was dangerous from every corner of the court.
he had a nice pull up jumper, and was unstoppable shooting wise. He may only shot 44 perfent from the field over his career but what many people overlook is that he shot so many shots from 3 point range that 44 perfect from the field was actually good.
we have to remember that only in his last 2 seasons the nba started to count 3 pointers. in his last 2 seasons pete shot 66 percent from downtown.

His generell Scoring:
Now if you think that pete was just a shooter, you would be wrong. as i already mentioned pistol was able to create his own shot.
he was also able to penetrate, blow by the defender, and make some unbelievable shots. It also did help that he had sensational handles,
and would set the basis for moves that you see in todays nba. I mean there is a reason why this guy avg more than 40 points in college.
(video college)

his passing: pistol was a score first player. no doubt about that. but he was blessed with the passing gift. he had senstational court vision
and would throw some of the most beatiful passes you have ever seen. precise. accurtate. beatufil. (calvin murphy pass needle)
he would avg 5.4 assists per game in the nba, and we have to remember he was not a point guard. he was a shooting guard.
At that time there were hardly any players who would avg more than 25 points per game + 5 assits.
again making him even more unstoppable. scoring mindset with a deadly pass.

work ethic. (2 min video top 10
There are not many players in nba history that had the work ethic of pistol pete.
in case you didnt know, when he was a kid he would get up at 5 am in morning, do a work out before school,
come back home after school, and train for the rest of the day. he was a lowner, which is why he dedicated his entire time
to basketball. this is what made him outwork anybody. he also came up with many drills, that we use today.
he would show many of the young guys in todays nba, what hard work is.
creativty.
you would think that 40 years after pistols petes last nba game, you would find players that were able to copy his moves, but no. he came up with so
many special moves that some of them are used in todays game, and some of them we havent seen since then.
he was a creative genius. again which resultet of him spending hours and hours in the gym.
thats why when players like jason williams aka white chocolate come along, we say that they are the reincarnation of pistol pete.
