REVIEW: Sugar Medical Diabetes Supply Clutch & Genteel Lancing Device by Laura Aiello @beansbetes

Hey guys, it's Bean from Bean's Betes, and in case you didn't know, I have type 1 diabetes. And although there are many words associated with diabetes, "fun" sure isn't one of them. And “exciting?” Yes, but not exactly in the good way. And “painless?” No, not at all. Which is why I'm so excited to talk about two companies, and specifically two products today that are really changing the game. First up is going to be by Sugar Medical. This is their new clutch, and although I've used Sugar Medical for many years, this new product is kind of exciting. Right off the bat I love that big pocket. Now, I have a big heavy-duty, hefty case on my phone, and I didn't think it was gonna fit in that, but it does, so I'm diggin it!
When you open it on up, you're gonna see what I call some of their old favorites. Now diabetics know we carry a lot of stuff typically, so I love that although I can put a lot of stuff in here it's also nice and compact, so it makes it perfect for date night, or a girls night out. In the mesh pocket I carry my fruit snacks, extra lancets and Chapstick (essential,) test strips of course, my Genteel, which we'll talk more about later, and of course, my PDM. Now, when I first opened this I was like oh my gosh, where's the pouch for my PDM? Doesn't have one, it's Velcro. Wasn't sure I was gonna like it, but check this out it stays put. Which is actually kind of cool, because I can totally see me on the go not having to take the PDM out of the case-- I can just do some insulin and go about my day. Pretty nifty. Now this is a game changer-- that right there you see that little metal oval, that's the trashcan. Now I know there's that old saying, that you can always kind of track where a diabetic’s been, based on the trail of test strips. I'm pretty sure Sugar Medical is trying to change that, because you can simply put your used test strips in there when you're done testing, and then in the back, it's a zipper to empty em. It holds 400 used test strips, so I guess I no longer have an excuse to have all my test strips on the ground. So that's the Sugar Medical clutch.
Now, I wanna talk about this little guy here. This is my Genteel, I know it looks kind of different, and it's definitely not your typical lancing device, but I love it. They call it vacuum technology, I call it magic! No but really it's kind of cool. Now, diabetics know that your fingertips end up sore and callous and hurting, which means not, cute and definitely not fun. So, with my Genteel you can sure prick your fingertips, but you don't have to. So, I'm actually gonna use it on the meaty portion of my hand here, I'll show you exactly how it's done. So, I'm just gonna put the test strip into my PDM, and again, I'm not even taking it out of the clutch, because I don't need to, so why should I? You're gonna see there's two different components on this. There's the activation button, and then the plunger which I've already been went ahead and pushed in which means it's ready to do the prickin'. I'm gonna go ahead find the meaty part, meaty meaty. I'm gonna turn it here so you can see, I'm gonna push the activation button, and I'm gonna hold it. and you can see how that plunger went out there? Now I'm gonna make sure my fingers off the activation button before I remove it from my skin, otherwise splatter can happen, and splatter goes back to not being fun. So, look, I got some blood! We're gonna go ahead see what my sugar is at. It's doing its thinkin thing. What's really nice is that once you go ahead and put that plunger back in, it slips right back into your Sugar Medical case nice and easy peasy. Okay, 151, not too shabby for after a bowl of pasta. Used strip goes right into that trashcan, makes it so convenient.
I'm loving how these two products are really working together, and what I'm loving most of all is how these two products are really going to change the game, as far as diabetics being able to have more freedom. It's definitely functional. It makes it fun, because hey, it's cute. It's exciting because it's everything in one small compact package, and best of all perhaps, it's a whole lot less painful than what we're used to. So, I hope you guys have a great day, and even better sugars.
