Episode 28 - Exploring the Kimberley & Free Camps with Crocs!
Welcome back Legends,
(it is crazy times in the world so we hope everyone is staying safe!)
In this episode we stay at a camp called Banana Wells, which you can find on Wiki camps. This camp has a lot to offer from power and water all the way to a secluded and private creek that offers some excellent fishing.
Power and water are not something we usually have, so we definitely made good use of the spring fed water that was on offer. Just for some useless info - we live off approx 300ltrs of water a week and don’t require electricity, but have the genny when we need it. Its a pretty small foot print when you think about it.
Banana Wells has green grass, so many animals and heaps to explore.
We used it as base camp to explore the Cape Leveque area. At Banana Wells we were not packed in like sardines, don’t get me wrong the views of some of the other camps were amazing, but just too many people for our liking.
So as we mentioned last week, we had the Dmax booked in for a service and to get the tyres rotated in Broome. So we headed back and camped at the Pistol Club which is one of Broomes overflow sites. We could not recommend it highly enough for $35 per night with power and water along with great hosts it is half the price of some of the caravan parks.
Busy busy busy with us preparing for the next leg of our journey headed North East of Derby, the Gibb River Road.
From Broome we headed for a free camp 10km off the highway on the Fitzroy River. What a magical spot! I was absolutely frothing. With boats everywhere and the teaming life from the freshwater of the Fitzroy river.
As soon as we pulled up there were several Freshwater Crocodiles on the bank before we had even picked a camp site. I could not have been happier. Once unhooked I explored the area looking for fishing spots and see some more crocs, it did not disappoint. They are everywhere! We only saw Freshwater Crocs, but there would be a big Salty somewhere.
This camp ground gets a massive 10 from us. I mean you’re on the river, with multiple crocs and an abundance of bird life and boab trees. It’s everything I dreamt of and more for the Kimberley.
Given that it is a free camp, please pick up after yourself and leave no trace so that these insane camps can stay open and free.
Hope you enjoyed guys. If you are new to the channel, hit that subscribe button, give it a like and enjoy our videos and adventures every Friday at 2pm AEST.
Do not miss the next episode as we have been holding onto a secret for some time now!
Cheers,
