Evening Bells - The Russian Imperial Singers
This performance is from a 1938 recording with the Russian Imperial Singers, featuring oktavist Irinarch Zragewsky. Zragewsky is remarkable in that, so far as I know, he is the earliest born oktavist of which we have a recording.
Zragewsky was born in Kiev on January 13, 1886. He attended university there and studied for the bar. His range is a remarkable one, even for a Russian bass, covering three octaves down to the low G below the bass clef. Zragewsky immigrated to the United States in 1923 and settled in New York with the other members of the Russian Imperial Singers. He toured through both North and South America during the 1930s and 40s with the Russian Imperial Singers.
