DOGS vs WOLVES : social interactions - CanOvis night monitoring - IPRA - #8.2

By studying the relationships between wolves, flocks and guardian dogs, the CanOvis project aims, in pastoral areas subject to significant predation pressure, to define better depredatory wolves’ behaviour,1 the protection capability of so-called “guardian” dogs (LGDs) and the vulnerability factors at pastoral unit (PU) level.
Objective: optimising flockprotection systems, specifically by making LGDs more efficient through the adjustment of prevention strategies and methods for taking action against depredatory wolves.

The CanOvis project is taking place in the Alps. All wild canids involved in the sequences presented are gray wolves of "italo-alpine" lineage (Canis lupus italicus) - There are no coyotes in the Western Alps where the study takes place.
