Fix Your Downswing: The Simple Alignment Rod Drill for Solid Contact
Welcome back to The Pro and The Hack! In this quick lesson, PGA Teaching Professional David Molso breaks down one of the most common (and most overlooked) mistakes in the golf swing: losing extension and coming out of the shot too early.
➡️ Fix Your Downswing: The Simple Alignment Rod Drill for Solid Contact
Many golfers release early, collapse their lead arm, and stand up through impact, which kills lag, power, and consistency. David shows how a simple alignment rod setup trains you to keep the clubhead under the rod for full extension and better rotation.
✅ What You Will Learn:
→ Why early release lifts the clubhead and disrupts your spine angle
→ How to set up two alignment rods — one for the target line and one raised 5-6 inches above the ground
→ The feel of keeping the clubhead low and extended through the shot while rotating properly
🔥 Pro Tips for You:
→ Stay Connected: Focus on maintaining your spine angle and preventing the lead arm/elbow/wrist from collapsing as you swing through.
→ Full Extension: Feel your hands stay lower and the clubhead travel under the rod for what feels like an eternity of extension.
→ Practice Progression: Start with shorter clubs and work up to longer ones to groove solid rotation and power through impact.
