Hello Campers!
We love boondocking (dry camping) but we still crave the comforts of life sometimes (my wife and her air conditioner mainly). We have this predator 3500 but it is a pain, even more so since changing to a fifth wheel, because we have to load it into the truck every time we want to go and use it. Not only do we have to put it into the truck, but we have to put it in the front of the bed. I had bought a cover from Amazon to help protect it from the elements (it sure was nice when we had the hard tonneau cover to protect it) but the cover was apparently not waterproof!
In this episode of what can Gimpy mess up we are installing a slide out generator tray. This tray is produced by Moryde and seems to be really built well. Depending on your application this can and should be an easy installation... However, it won't be. The tray itself is built well, but the RV that you are wanting to put it in will probably have a couple issues we ran into. There could be a tank just under the wooden flooring. If there is no tank or obstacle in the way then the problem will more than likely still be that it needs additional bracing in order to support any significant weight.
Any time you are doing a project like this, you must think about safety. There is a significant risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning if done incorrectly. You have to make sure the exhaust is safe and as well ventilated as possible. I feel like I have taken pretty good safety measures myself, but I still plan on closing the slide closest to the generator and hanging a CO detector just inside from where the generator is. My other safety measures include an exhaust fan as well as an exhaust extension on the predator 3500.
My last problem is that in it's current setup the door does not open far enough to be able to put gas into it, so I am going to try a fuel pump which I will later have an additional review on. Everything else, including maintenance should be able to be completed while in the tray.
