Foal Detection with Morgan Mare NSS Alagio

Featuring a 6.5 minute video with detailed Mare reproductive anatomy as her pregnancy develops from March 31, 2020 to her day of foaling April 5, 2020.

This updated video combines both photos and video footage of a mare softening for foal parturition, some of her behavior changes and detailed images of equine anatomy.

Observable signs and behavior of mare approaching parturition are helpful to understand and identify when expecting a foal. Alagio did not fully wax nor did she drip milk prior to foaling. We observed head lowering a day before and day of foaling. Prior to foaling she carried her tail to the side. Alagio walked in large circles returning to a favorite spot. Just prior to foaling she layed down and stood up several times and then layed down so as labor contractions foaled.
