The Drifters "Save the Last Dance for Me"

The Drifters were one of the best male vocal groups of the 1950s and 1950s. "Save the Last Dance for Me" written by Mort Shuman and Doc Pomus was released as a single by The Drifters in August 1960 on Atlantic Records and reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard pop and R&B charts. The recording was produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and featured Ben E. King on lead vocal, Charlie Thomas, Dock Green , and Elsbeary Hobbs on background vocals, Bucky Pizzarelli and Allen Hanlon on guitar, Lloyd Trotman on bass, and Gary Chester on drums. The song appeared on the album, Save The Last Dance For Me released in 1962 on Atlantic and is available on CD on The Very Best of The Drifters on Rhino/Atlantic.
