COWICHAN BAY --The Dominion 1 vessel continues to be the center of controversy within Cowichan Bay. The 40-year-old ship has been sitting abandonment in the harbour since 2007 and some feel like it is an environmental disaster waiting to happen. Concerned residents say that the ship may sink and possibly could even crash into the Government Dock during a spring storm.

The coastguard boarded the vessel back in 2010 when it was listing and removed six inches of water from the engine room.

The owner of the boat lives in Oregon and says he is working to sell the boat for parts. He says the boat could be towed away as early as this month. However, the Regional Director of Cowichan Bay Lori Iannidinardo says she has spent countless hours working with the owner to remove the boat with little results.
