Inside Longest & Heaviest Railroad Bridge in the World

This Railroad Bridge was the longest and heaviest bascule in the world when it was built in 1908 by Chicago & Northwestern over the Chicago River. It is known as the Kinzie Street railroad bridge. C&NW was bought by Union Pacific in 1995. The last train to use this drawbridge was in 2001 although it isn't officially abandoned because to keep it in "active" status they lower it once a year and send a Hi-rail truck on the tracks. You will also see where the tracks went into the Chicago Sun Times in the parking lot. It became a Historical Chicago Landmark in 2007.
