Who started the whole thing where learning jazz also means not playing anything that you've heard before? Learning to speak a language means transcribing what you hear and then using that information when you speak. You will always sound like yourself in the end no matter what. Think about it. We can all speak the same exact words but our voices are unique. Same with music. Learn the grammar and vocabulary then communicate your way.
