This is soooo meta.
In September, I was invited to speak about #digitalmarketing to a group of marketers and entrepreneurs in Serbia.
I explained that we are now in the age of "meta-marketing" where ads about ads, courses about courses, and programs about programs are the norm. It's not enough to just do the thing...you should also do the thing while doing the thing.
A few weeks later Facebook announced its official shift to Meta. 💪
Just a couple years ago I was at a Shark Tank / Dragon's Den type investors' pitch session in Russia. There was a young entrepreneur who was looking for capital to fund her online school.
She claimed that she could make courses that would completely blow away the competition. So, I asked why she was only selling her course about her specialized area of knowledge to clients of that market, instead of selling a course about making courses. If her method was so great, why not profit by teaching that to others? We went back and forth and discussed the idea.
Then I shared this idea with her:
In a gold rush, don't dig for gold. Sell shovels. ⛏
What is the shovel of your industry?
Find it. Position it. Sell it.
