In the UK’s Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital we follow parents as they make hard decisions, comfort their distressed children and have to put their trust in strangers – the hospital’s doctors and nurses.

The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is one of the largest hospitals of its kind in the UK. 230,000 children together with their parents are seen here every year. In this series, we follow families and patients, their stories and join them on an emotional journey through the world of parenting.

In this first episode:

Parents Debbie and Mike bring their three year old child in for dialysis. She’s already lost one kidney and the other is failing fast. She urgently needs a transplant and dad is a perfect match.

14 month Archie is on his way. He has burns to his head and neck. Mum Sam, is wracked with guilt.

Young Cody comes in for a minor operation. She’s having her tooth out. But she was born with a very rare inherited metabolic disorder and mom Alison has to make an almost impossible decision –could she risk having any more children?

And a mom watches her son in pain as he has his finger manipulated back in to position following a fracture.
