End Oil Colonialism at Africa Energies Summit May 2022 | Extinction Rebellion UK

On Tuesday May 17 at around 8am, a coalition of groups including Extinction Rebellion Africa, Sustaining the Wild Coast, StopEACOP, Africans Rising, The Green Connection, Oceans Not Oil, Jubilee for Climate, 350.org and Greenpeace disrupted the Africa Energies Summit, a high-level conference attended by oil executives and African heads of state, who will also meet for “top-level networking”.Protesters locked on inside the reception of the 5-star May Fair Hotel in London that is hosting the Africa Energies Summit, billed as the “go to conference for Africa’s energy industry.”The conference is sponsored by oil giants such as Shell, Total, Perenco and Schlumberger, who have all published record profits for the last quarter while consumer fuel prices soar and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson warns the cost-of-living crisis will get worse.

At 5:30pm on Wednesday May 18, Extinction Rebellion took action to prevent the Africa Energies Summit gala dinner at Gordon Ramsay's Heddon Street Kitchen in central London from going ahead. The gala dinner is sponsored by Schlumberger, the world's largest oilfields services provider.

Six people glued to the doors and windows of the restaurant to prevent the delegates from entering. They each wore patches reading 'JUSTICE FOR AFRICA'.​​​​​​
