Dharug Voices | Featuring Mason Browne

In this episode of Dharug Voices, we sit with Mason Browne at Sydney Theatre Company, Dharug creative director, costume designer, and stage designer from the Blue Mountains. Mason joins us at Sydney Theatre Company, where 'Whitefella Yella Tree' by Dylan Van Den Berg produced by Griffin Theatre is currently showing before its national tour.

The play explores queer love, First Nations resilience, and how we redefine identity amidst turmoil — set poignantly on the first site of invasion.
Mason shares how growing up in his mother’s costume workshop shaped his creative path, his love for collaborative theatre-making, and his belief in radicalising audiences through design.

🌿 “Country doesn’t stay still — it grows back through the crevices, fighting back to life.”
🔥 “Throw yourself into it. You’re already a part of it, and what you bring is more powerful than you think.”

🎭 Watch to explore:
- Mason’s journey from Dharug Country to national stages
- His design approach to 'Whitefella Yella Tree'
- The power of Country and creativity to heal and fight back
