Street Talk : DK's Donuts

This week on ‘Street Talk’ JJ Anderson meets up with Donut Princess Mayly Tao of DK’s Donuts & Bakery in Santa Monica, CA. Mayly’s parents who were originally Cambodian refugees, escaped to America and by 1981, gained ownership of the DK’s Donuts Santa Monica location. Both Mayly and her brother Sean grew up in the shop and took notice of their parents’ unbeatable work ethic. It was there they learned the important of customer service, quality ingredients, and maintaining the consistency of both.

When it came time for Mrs. and Mr. Tao to retire, they passed the shop down to their kids. Although Mayly was reluctant to join the family business at first, there is no denying that the location flourished once she took charge. With the help of some of her mom's original recipes, Mayly was able to invent LA's first half waffle, half donut hybrid and add it to their menu. This match made in heaven, along with their Maple Bacon Bliss Bar, Original Ube Purple Yam Donut, and Double Decker O-Nut keeps a line of people wrapped around the building. The best part about DK's?—They're open 24/7.
