Aranjuez

The Royal Site of Aranjuez was established by the Catholic Monarchs Isabel and Fernando. It was until the XVII Century, during the reign of Philip II, that the Royal Palace was built.

But it took until the middle of the XVIII Century to became an open city, before that only relatives of the Monarch were allowed to live in the surroundings of the Royal Site.

In 2001 the UNESCO listed the Aranjuez Cultural landscape as a World Heritage Site.
