Ford Edsel. The $250 Million Car America Refused to Buy

Ford spent around 250 million dollars in 1957 dollars to build the Edsel, the equivalent of about 2.7 billion today. They researched the market, marketed it for years, and predicted it would be the car of the future. America rejected it almost immediately. The styling was controversial, the name flopped, and the economy was shifting. After two years and massive losses, Ford killed the Edsel. The name became shorthand for product failure.
