Second chemical spill at Silfab Solar plant in Fort Mill, SC | Flint Hill Elementary closed

Flint Hill Elementary School in Fort Mill is closed on Thursday following a second incident involving chemicals at the nearby Silfab Solar manufacturing plant, York County officials confirmed.

WCNC Charlotte received multiple tips from parents that they were turned away from dropping their kids off at school due to an "active incident" at Silfab. The Fort Mill School District confirmed the school was closed out of an abundance of caution. Silfab Solar sits just a few hundred yards away from the Flint Hill campus, separated only by a tree line at the property edge.

York County Emergency Management said it was aware of an "issue" with hydrofluoric acid and crews were sent to the plant to monitor the situation. It comes two days after a potassium hydroxide spill at the facility. South Carolina environmental officials temporarily halted operations at the plant to investigate that incident. The agency said the leak is within the designed containment and doesn't pose a health risk to the public. #News #Education
