Recently, I have been training to ATTEMPT a shot at breaking the Guinness World Record for most Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Peppers) eaten in 3 minutes which stands at 66 grams. For the past 3 weeks or so, my training has consisted of chewing on dried Ghost Peppers to acclimate my myself to what it feels like to have over 1,000,000 Scoville Heat Units in your mouth...
(It feels like chemical burns)
In order to see how my progress is going, I decided to put my skills to the test and challenge my insides by eating one of the SPICIEST Curry's in the WORLD.... The PHAAL CURRY at Brick Lane Curry House at their location in New Jersey. The curry is prepared by a chef who uses a GAS MASK, and some of the ingredients include GREEN CHILIES, THAI CHILIES, HABANEROS, WHITE CHILI POWDER and BHUT JOLOKIAS (Ghost Peppers).
With a Scoville Heat Unit measurement of 1,000,000...you must give a verbal consent to the restaurant acknowledging how excruciatingly Hot/Spicy Phaal is....and that they are not responsible if you die. If you can down the entire bowl of Phaal in 30 min or less, you win a FREE BEER and get a certificate of completion.
Let's just say.....it did not go according to plan for me that day. I am going to go back to the drawing board, tweak some things, and I have no DOUBT that I will ACHIEVE SUCCESS!!! Stay TUned.
