Traditionally berdan is a hassle because there is no central flash hole for a decapping pin like with boxer primers. Berdan depriming tools are expensive and cumbersome things that grip the case, pierce the primer, then pry it out. Hydraulic depriming simply involves filling the case with water, inserting a shaft, and popping it with a hammer. The water pressure pushes the primer out.
