In My opinion Alaskan smoked salmon especially Red or Sockeye salmon is a cleaner flavor with a firmer texture. This recipe is semi sweet and salty with still leaves the fish as the star!!!

Watch my full video link in bottom of description for my how to. There are many different ways to smoke salmon cold smoke is for reservation while a hot smoke is for a meal like dinner. I use alder wood or pellets to smoke my salmon. Where I live it is easier to get alder pellets for smoking. But you can smoke salmon with any hard wood you'd like as long as it is edible.

Types of Salmon: "Is King Salmon the best for smoking?" "What's the difference between King, Coho, and Sockeye salmon?"
Well, I prefer Sockeye (red) but people have their own preferences. The fat content of the fish is the biggest difference.

Health Benefits: "Is smoked salmon healthy?" "What are the omega-3 benefits?" "Is there a risk of listeria?"
In Alaska listeria can be present but normally due to the processing facilities. Omega-3 is beneficial to hair and skin but also for healthy cell make up. Smoke salmon can be healthy depending on products used.

Sustainability: "Where does Alaskan smoked salmon come from?" "How is it sourced sustainably?" "How does it impact the local economy?"
There are many runs of Alaskan salmon throughout the state, and everyone needs to work to protect the sustainability of our precious resource. There are many steps implemented to try to recover the salmon populations, but more work needs to be done. The Alaska economy hinges on the vibrant commercial, sport and subsistence fisheries.

Traditional vs. Modern: "What are the traditional methods of smoking salmon in Alaska?" "How has smoking evolved over time?"
Traditionally salmon is hung in strips and cold smoke for days they may be seasoned with berries and even pine needles. There is a lot of modern equipment used to make the process faster.
