Building a Pike of Hay in the old way on the lands of Sheila Holohan Kievy, Carrigallen 30 Jy 2014

The old tradition of saving and bringing in the hay was carried on last Wednesday 30th July 2014 on the lands of Sheila Holohan Kievy, Carrigallen. A group of Friends and Relations of the late Tommy Roche RIP, Longfield, Killegar, decided to build a pike of hay in his rememberance as it was at least twenty five years ago since Tommy had built the last pike of hay on his own farm. Tommy was a very hard working and helpful farmer and would have been present at the building of every pike and reak of hay around his surrounding area. The old machinery was erected from everywhere possible with Whinston Harkness supplying the Diesel Twenty tractor, Liam Lomasney the Cox Lifter and Peter Donohoe supplying the Tractor Transporter. Both young and old had an enjoyable day and thanks to everybody for helping out. Video by Tony Fahy
