More Daytona Beach Households in Florida can now qualify for pandemic rental assistance after the city expanded its qualifications for the program to include middle-income households.

The city announced Friday that beginning Monday an additional $500,000 in corona relief funds will be available to help residents who are behind on rent due to that thing out there.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 18th and funds are provided on a first come first served basis for those who qualify for rental housing costs to cover November and December.

I hope more states continue to help residents as the Cares Act funds expire soon for some states.

Meanwhile, the clock is ticking for Hawaii to spend all their CARES Act funding.

Hawaii officials are racing to spend millions of dollars in federal aid with a month and a half left before the funds expire.

According to the Honolulu City Council, the government awarded Hawaii about $1.25 billion from the CARES Act and only 22.3% of the funds were actually spent.

The council is urging the state’s Congressional leaders to push for an extension of the year-end deadline to use the money.

Council Chairman, Emeritus Ron Menor said, “It’s going to take several years for our devastated economy to fully recover, but the clock is ticking right for Hawaii because every CARES Act dollar has to be spent by Dec. 30th or we have to give the money back.”

While businesses and people are struggling to find work, it’s amazing that some states have yet to spend all their money.
And finally, President Trump called for Congressional action on a relief bill in a series of Saturday tweets.

Trump demanded, “Congress must now do a Covid Relief Bill.”

He continued, “Needs Democrats support. Make it big and focused. Get it done!”

Trump has put renewed focus on pandemic response recently hosting a Friday press briefing that celebrated a breakthrough vaccine.

This is good news if Congress and the Senate can agree on a package then President Trump can sign off on it.

Both sides are pushing for Americans to get stimulus checks, so this only reassures that Trump agrees that one is needed to boost the economy.
