The 1950s Secret To A Happier Life | What We Lost
So why were people happier in the 1950s vs Today? Well the biggest changes aren’t the clothes or the cars. It’s the systems of daily life; money, housing, trust, news, privacy, and how fast information found you. This video lays out what changed, and what that did to us.
Back then, the world had friction. You had to go places. You had to wait. You had to deal with people face to face. A lot of daily life ran on simple expectations—one income, a home you could realistically reach, kids moving through a neighborhood that knew their name, and news that ended when the broadcast ended. You didn’t feel “protected,” exactly. You just lived inside a slower, more local set of rules.
Now, most of that friction is gone. Information is everywhere, privacy is thinner, and trust has been replaced with policies, passwords, and proof. This isn’t saying one era was perfect. It’s explaining why they felt so different; because they were built on different mechanics.
Thanks for coming along on this journey,
Frank
