Sermon Description: The Advent Season is when we focus on Christ’s first coming. Our messages this Advent Season will be The Promised Seed, The Promised King, The Promised Hope, and on Christmas Eve The Promised Branch. Our texts open by looking at the first promise of a Seed that will come. In Genesis 3 we see that one particular Seed will come to bruise the serpent’s head. This wound to his head will be a deadly wound. Then, we moved from the promise to Eve to the promise of Abraham. In this we see that God had not forgotten His promise to Eve. We see that God’s coming grace would flow through Abraham to the nations. Like Genesis 3, Genesis 22 pointed to a singular Seed who would come to fulfill God’s promise to deliver a people. Then, Paul shows us that God’s promise first given to Eve and then to Abraham was fulfilled in Christ. Paul tells us that God’s promise in Genesis 12 to the nations was now fulfilled in Christ. The one Seed that brought salvation to the nations was Jesus Christ. Finally, Advent leads us to Christmas as it points us to the birth of Jesus Christ. As we look to Christ’s first coming, we are also to look to His second coming.
