How The Average Final Fantasy 12 Player Thinks

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is where the mainline FF series went completely wrong. Square Enix threw out the Turn Based Combat system of Squaresoft's FF1 - FFX, and instead made a Single Player Auto Battler MMO. It feels like it's designed to get more people to play FF11, where the real money is at. It feels like they used an entire numbered FF as a beta testing ground for the next Massive Multiplayer Online RPG (FFXIV - FF14). You might like the new gameplay, but it's not a "natural evolution" of the combat of FF1-10. FFXII may have made more sense in 2006, during the height of MMO Mania (World of Warcraft was only 2 years old, and it was a worldwide phenomenon). But we don't live in that time period anymore. Today it is as clear as day that FF12 is massive break from the Golden Age of FF, and the true beginning of its Dark Ages (which we're still in). It belongs in the same conversation as FF15, 16 and FF7 Remake / Rebirth. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sparked debate about modern Final Fantasy. That game makes it impossible to look at Modern FF the same way, ever again.
