A Career in Pavement Surfacing (JTJS42009)

Chez enjoys the outdoors so he's off to take a look at a role that is definitely suited to someone keen on being outside -- laying and repairing our roads and footpaths. There are two types of pavement surfaces used in New Zealand, chip and asphalt. Chez gets out on the job to learn about the technical nature of ensuring the surfaces are prepared and laid correctly. It can be demanding work and requires precision and care considering asphalt emerges from the machine at 150°C. He learns chip sealing is a mix of bitumen and stone chip to create a skid resistant and waterproof surface.
