VLOG #28 - Cortana vs. Google vs. Alexa
There is a first time for everything. I never thought that I would do a product review but during this vacation I had too many good laughs with these three personal assistants that I felt the urge to share them with you. You’ll witness that truly each one of the personal assistants has its own persona which can make it fun at times but also frustrating. You can see the frustrating parts if you wait for the outtakes and witness how Alexa and Google can talk at the same time and don’t want to listen to you when you tell them to stop. Or that you learn Cortana and Alexa are clearly Americans, but I’m not so sure about Google. The most disappointing experience to me is the built-in music services. For example, I love that Pandora is built-in to Alexa Echo dot, but it’s not built-in to the UE Megablast, why? The same goes for Google and Cortana. If you have multiple speakers and you want to leverage them fully, you’ll have to sign up for several music subscriptions, which is ridiculous. Harman Kardon Invoke has integrated Spotify, Google has Google Music, and Alexa on the UE Megablast has Amazon Music. They all support online Radio such as TuneIn and iHeartRadio but you can’t access your playlists. The fact that all of them lack that kind of support tells me that this isn’t necessarily a lack of importance for the customer experience by the manufacturer, but probably much more related to that these services don’t want to play nice. I mean why isn’t Pandora available on all of them? Did all 3 manufacturers mess up or Pandora? I don’t know but I’m surprised that they all have the same issue on this point.
In the video, I do mention that Cortana is my favorite, and the reason is that I have her on all devices. On my XBOX, Surface, Phone, and in the living Room on the speaker. She is also the only one that is truly connected to my work identity, meaning she knows my personal and my professional calendar and can give me information on work related appointments and my personal ones. She also has access to my employer’s enterprise network and can give me information that none of the others can.
I hope you enjoy the video and if so, please share it with your friends.
