How To Troubleshoot the AI-215 Ice Maker

In this video we walk you through troubleshooting issues with your AI-215 portable ice-maker. When your ice maker is malfunctioning, there are several symptoms that can indicate the nature of the malfunction.

Your ice maker functions by using a water pump to draw water from the reservoir and deposit it into a plastic trough called the Ice Case. Cooling prongs connected to a compressor then freeze it into bullet-shaped ice and release it to be shoveled into the Ice bucket.

The water pump makes an audible noise as it functions, so if you can’t hear a pumping noise while the unit cycles, or if the noise has grown louder and more strained, your water pump may need replacing.

Another issue can be caused when the ice case itself suffers a physical failure, cracking the case and preventing it from cycling normally. This is usually observable by looking inside the unit with a flashlight to visually inspect the integrity of the case. You may spot a crack in the plastic that indicates the need for a repair.

Feel free to carefully manipulate the ice case while it’s unplugged to make sure you hear the tell-tale click of the microswitches that relay its position to the main board. If you don’t hear it clicking at the furthest edge of its movement range, you may be experiencing a microswitch malfunction.

If your ice maker is making thin ice, even on the largest setting, it may indicate a problem with the compressor, necessitating repair by a licensed professional.
