Quantum Of The Seas: 1 - our mind-blowing bridge tour of this new $1 billion cruise ship

http://www.redferret.net/?p=47036. Ever wondered what it's like to be the captain of a $1 billion cruise liner which is the most advanced on the sea at the moment? Yes, same here. Well we got the chance last week, when we were invited on board the incredible new Quantum of The Seas cruise liner (sister ship of the Anthem Of The Seas) for a 2 day shake-down excursion around the coast. And we got to visit the bridge to talk to the captain directly!

The ship is absolutely packed with new technology, from the snazzy kerb side check in with tablet computers, RFID luggage tracking and barcodes, to the floor to ceiling 4K LCD screens which act as virtual balconies, to deliver real time video of the sea view to inner cabins which don't have a real window.

We expected to be wowed, but we didn't expect to be so impressed with the sheer scale of the ship and it's systems, nor did we expect the visit to the bridge to be so totally awesome. It's like the ultimate boy's toy, only it weighs 168,000 tons and takes a few weeks to come to a halt on command.
