What Do You Have In Your House, God Will Give You An Idea

“What do you have in your house?” is a phrase from a story in the Old Testament, 2nd Kings Chapter 4, verses 1-7. Elisha asked a widow this question to find a solution for her financial problems. She only had a small amount of oil. After following the prophet’s instructions, that small amount of oil was multiplied greatly. The story is about using what you have, no matter how little, to trust God for provision and blessing. During my mask-making period, I wanted to do something different. God reminded me of some Mardi-Gras beads I had kept for years, just couldn’t ever seem to get rid of them. I had purchase some plain turbans with a spiral design attached to them. I had no idea of what I could create out of what I had. I kept looking back and forth trying to figure out what he wanted me to do with what I had. It took a while before I could see what he wanted me to see and create. God is so amazing and so kind to me. In that 4th verse, Elisha said, “Go and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few. Then go inside with your sons and pour oil into all the jars, setting the empty ones aside when you have filled them.” Let me give you the meaning of the story in a nutshell. You might see it differently. Now, Elisha’s first step was to identify the widow’s available resources, even though they seemed insignificant. The widow had to focus on what she had in her house. Then, she had to trust Elisha and take action to gather empty jars. By using the pot of oil and borrowed jars, God multiplied the oil, providing enough for her and her sons to live on for a long time. God will do the same for us when we believe and trust him. Remember, this is the era where we must come together in unity for many to be able to survive. We must begin to create and produce things people will need in the kingdom. The Body of Christ must have clean hands and pure hearts in order for us to receive supernatural help from above. Our agenda will be God’s agenda. As we go forth, our lives will depend upon our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only way, the only truth and the only life.
