Full Moon Practice - Ancient Breathwork for Modern Life w/ Allyn Cioban

As my way to serve you during this COVID-19 Shelter In Place situation, it is my honor to share with you a multitude of breathing practices, some of which date back to Patanjali, the Father of Yoga! These are the techniques that the Yogis from the Himalayas have used to bring their body, mind, and electromagnetic field back to life after sitting in Samadhi (a state of deep meditation) for an extended period.

TODAY'S CLASS: Was designed to tap into the Full Moon Energy! We worked with the waters of the body and nourished our Parasympathetic Nervous System to support us in purifying and healing ourselves.

In these thirty-minute online classes students will practice a series of breathing techniques to energize and awaken the body, mind, and energy body. Experience vitality as well as inner calm like you may have never before! Most of us tend to use a very small percentage of our lung capacity, breathing very shallowly for much of our life. These classes will help you expand your breath capacity and wellbeing, tame your wild mind, soothe your anxious and fearful heart, and perhaps transform your understanding of the power of your breath altogether.

Some of the many benefits of these types of breathing are:
• stimulate the vagus nerve (activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest/heal state)
• condition the cardiovascular system (heart, arteries, and lungs)
• balance the hormones
• clean the blood
• clear and calm the mind
• improve digestion
• more regular elimination
• balance the emotions (relieve anxiety, depression, stress)
• bolster the adrenal system
• soothe the nervous system
• strengthen your electromagnetic field
• bring a beautiful healthy glow to your face
• reduce back, hip and neck pain
• strengthen the immune system

How to prepare:
Create a quiet, clean, calm space in your home or office. Have a yoga mat, cushion or blanket to sit on, or a chair without arms, and a water bottle (hot water is recommended during this practice). Wear comfortable layers to accommodate changes in body temperature. While some of the breathing exercises are very calming and relaxing, others are quite active and invigorating. Don’t be surprised if you feel like you’ve had a full physical exercise or yoga practice at the end of these powerful classes!

***IMPORTANT***
It is not recommended to eat a meal within 2 hours before this practice. You will be using breathing techniques that exercise the inner body, which is much more comfortable and beneficial on a relatively empty stomach. A very small snack is OK, if needed. Please have a container of drinking water (hot water recommended) with you during this practice.

***VERY IMPORTANT***
Please practice at your own pace! If you are new to your exercise or breathing practice, take it slowly allowing yourself to build up your capacity and strength little by little. I recommend you do less than you think you can for the first few classes, taking your time to get to know yourself and how your body systems respond to breathing deeply, fast, slow, holding breath in, holding breath out, and the movements we perform. ***ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDATION OF YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER.*** Many of these exercises look very simple, and many are – but simple does not necessarily mean easy! The breathing techniques used are incredibly powerful. They can reduce your heart rate and blood pressure quickly, which has great healing benefit for the body systems. And, if they drop too suddenly, that is not good. I will talk about how to practice safely during the classes, however please pay great attention to the way you feel at all times during the practice. Back off from any exercise and take a break whenever you feel you should. A good rule of thumb is: If you feel like it's too much, you are right! Stop, breathe naturally, rest, and when you feel recovered, continue!

Finally, and deeply, I would like to thank my spiritual teacher, Dr. Joseph Michael Levry, founder of Naam Yoga, for sharing these beautiful healing techniques with me and encouraging me to share them with you. All of the sacred mantra music used in this video are composed by and belong to Dr. Levry, and are used with his permission. I highly encourage you to download the tracks used in today’s Shakti Naam practice, and chant with them often. Find the music here: https://shop.rootlight.com/?rfsn=1520...
