Power BI Date Picker Slicer Preview: Manual + Relative Dates in One Slicer

The new Date picker slicer is now available as a Preview feature in Power BI.

This is a useful update for Power BI users because it combines manual date selection and relative date selection in one slicer.

In this video, I show how to update an existing date slicer to the new Date picker slicer and how the Manual and Relative options work.

In this video

• How to enable the Date picker slicer preview feature
• How to update an existing date slicer
• How Manual date selection works
• How Relative date selection works
• How to use options like This Year, Last Month, Last 30 Days, and offsets
• Why this can reduce manual report maintenance
• What might still be confusing for end users

Why it is useful

With the new Date picker slicer, you can publish a report with a relative default date range, and users can still switch to a manual date range if they need to.

This is helpful when reports need to stay up to date automatically as data refreshes, but users still need flexibility to choose their own date range.

How to enable it

Go to:

File → Options and settings → Options → Preview features

Then enable the new Date picker slicer preview feature.

After that, add a date field to a slicer and choose the Date picker option.
